If you appreciate good taxidermy, you must someday visit Hole 'n' the Rock in Moab, Utah, which also has a very fine collection of amateur Jesus portraits, and a stone carving of FDR on the cliff. It really is just about the coolest place on the planet by my standards.

But while you're in Texas, stop by the Frontier Times Museum in Bandera (http://www.frontiertimesmuseum.com/) which
    a) is the mostly badly curated museum in the history of the universe, and delightfully so (you have to love placards that say "this is about 80 years old" and are typed on really yellowed index cards), and
    b) actually displays a shrunken human head.

And I am NOT kidding. $5 for adults, $1 for kids 6-17, free for under 6. Do NOT leave the hill country without checking it out and taking LOTS of pictures. I promise it will be the best $6 you ever spent and the kids will adore it.
